Meals on Wheels of Pinellas, a program offered through Neighborly Care Network, delivers nutritious lunchtime meals to homebound seniors in our community.
St Pete First and Meals on Wheels have been teaming up for nearly 30 years. A dedicated group of about 40 church members and friends covers one Meals on Wheels delivery route out of the nearby Sunshine Center, serving seniors in St Petersburg.
On a typical weekday, our volunteers deliver 10-15 meals to homebound clients – a hot meal ready to eat that day, frozen meals for the weekend, or even a box of shelf-stable foods at the beginning of hurricane season. Meals on Wheels clients also benefit from their brief daily interaction with the volunteers who deliver meals to their door.
The Meals on Wheels ministry has multiple impacts. Studies show that Meals on Wheels clients receive health benefits, both from the nutritious food and the interaction with the delivery volunteers. But ask any volunteer and they will say it is THEY who feel blessed after delivering Meals on Wheels.
Meals on Wheels needs volunteers who can help on a regular basis or be an occasional substitute. Registration and training are required and will be provided.
Each team of two delivers one day a month. Time commitment is about 1½ hours (10:30am-12noon, on a weekday).
