Lenten Devotional: March 15, 2024

by Karen Taggart

SCRIPTURE VERSE: John: 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 100

MEDITATION: Life is like a computer. You only get out of it what you put in!

We take computers for granted. They’re a part of our everyday life, each time we use a credit card, do our banking, or check out of the grocery store. In dozens of ways every day we rely on computers without even realizing it.

We take our everyday life for granted much the same way. God is a part of our everyday life, and we rely on Him, without realizing it, to watch over us. We know we can turn to Him in times of sorrow or need, but when was the last time you stopped just to thank Him for something? Don’t take for granted that He knows you’re thankful. Take the time to tell Him, then put yourself in His hands, and let Him work through you. It’s time to “re-program” your life!

But, you say to yourself, what can I do that would make a difference? Begin with something small. Give a little of yourself. Share your smile with someone, friend or stranger. It may be just what they need to brighten their day. It won’t cost you anything, it won’t hurt, and it works in any language. It might just make your day, too. Think what doors might be opened with one small smile.

Remember, God gave His Son for us. Could you at least spare a smile for someone?

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: "A SMILE costs nothing but gives much. It enriches those who receive, without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it, and none is so poor but that he can be made rich by it. A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in business, and is the countersign of friendship. It brings rest to the weary, cheer to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and it is nature’s best antidote for trouble. Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give." (Author Unknown)

PRAYER: Lord, help us to remember that all we have comes from thee.
